Urbandale, IA police are investigating the death of the bass guitarist for Grammy award-winning Slipknot at a local hotel.

Paul Dedrick Gray, 38, of Johnston was found dead at approximately 10:50 a.m. today by an employee at TownePlace Suites, 8800 Northpark Drive, police said.

There was no evidence of foul play, police said, but the investigation is ongoing. An autopsy will be performed Tuesday and toxicology tests will be done as well.

Gray was one of the founding members of Slipknot, which broke into the mainstream in 1999 with a platinum selling debut album. In 2002 the band released the album, Iowa, titled for their roots and in 2005 released another platinum album.

Disclaimer: I know this isn't sports related but as an Iowan myself, there aren't a whole lot of big bands to come out of Iowa and this death hits particularly close to home. The hotel is a mere 10 miles from my house.
